Trying to decide where to go when you need a new hair cut. color, or both, can be a very challenging experience. You definitely want to do your research. Make sure to go online and find a quality salon that has a working website. Ask your friends and family for referrals and be sure to check out the online reviews. So now you’ve chosen the salon and the stylist, but now the really scary part begins. How do you communicate the wants and desires that you have for your hair to your stylist?
This is a very real fear! A lot of people have this challenge. To start with, you and your stylist should sit down and have a conversation about your hair and lifestyle. This is not you sitting in a chair and your stylist standing behind you, talking to you in the mirror. NO NO NO! This conversation should take about 10 – 15 minutes. Some of the information that your stylist needs to know from you are the standard questions, like, how much are we cutting, what style are you trying to create and how are your products working for you, but in reality, in order to do our VERY best, we need a lot more information than just that.
When I sit down to talk with my clients I want to know your ideas and feelings about your hair. I’m going to ask you about how you feel about the condition of your hair, what do you think about the shine in your hair, are you happy with the direction your hair style is headed in or do you need to change course. Do we need to improve anything about your hair, if so we’ll discuss what those changes are and the path we are going to take to achieve those changes.

I will explain the how’s and why’s of protecting your hair from both environmental and chemical damage. Are you using your products correctly and in the correct amounts. Using too much product can be harmful to your hair. Do you know the proper heat setting you hot tools should be set at?
There have been times when a client doesn’t want to take the time or doesn’t feel that they ‘need’ to have a consultation. The important thing to remember is that our consultation is designed so I can have as much clarity has possible for your hair and your desired look.
