Ombre? Balayage? Which is right for you!

Balayage is a very natural look. It's actually a hand painted highlight. What you want is a seamless, sun kissed effect,  transitioning from the dark to light. Balayage is different from Ombre's or dip dyed color. The is no strong demarcation line,  everything is seamless and really looks as if the sun has kissed it.

The Ombre technique should also transition from dark to light. A lot of time the Ombre and Balayage techniques are blended to give a very customized effect for the client. Both techniques can be used with  natural and fashion colors.

How do you choose which technique is right for you?

If you have shoulder length hair and want something different than traditional highlights, then these techniques are something to consider. But, our short hair clients shouldn't feel left out and yes, that includes you guys also.  It' very easy to hand paint and custom place highlights using these techniques.

One of the reasons
the Balayage and Ombres are so popular is because of the low maintenance involved. Yes the initial cost is more than  traditional highlights, but   maintaining this style is very easy. Say goodbye to highlights every 6 - 8 weeks  and hello to balayage every 4 - 6 months. If you need grey coverage, no problem, just continue with your regular grey coverage schedule adding in the balayage or ombre highlights when needed.

What about the at home maintenance of the balayage or ombre highlights?

It depends on where you  started before you began highlighting. Typically,  highlighting involves a lightener to lighten the hair. There are a variety of colors or lighteners to choose from.  Any form of  highlighting can be drying and/or damaging to your hair, but there are steps that can be taken to minimize the effects of the lightener.  One of my recommendations is to use a bond builder such as Olaplex #1 in your lightener and do the at home maintenance routinely with the Olaplex #3.
