Have fun in Galveston this Spring Break


The month of March is typically the beginning of Spring for our area, but it also means the beginning of our Spring Break Season.  For many families, this is the time to find fun, family friendly activities, while staying close to home.  Galveston fits the bill. Being only 27 miles from League City,  it makes it easy to take a day trip and explore all the fun activities Galveston has to offer.

 

Galveston Beaches


March is the month that we say good by to winter and hit the beach.  With 32 miles of shoreline, there's something for every type of beach goer.  Seawall beaches are open year  round, but East beach and Stewart Beach will open on March 7, 2020.  While visiting the beach parks, you can take advantage of beach chair rentals, volleyball courts, restrooms, showers,snack bars and other concessions.  You can also schedule fun activities such as  horse back riding and helicopter tours.  On March 22, Stewart Beach will host the return of the Galveston Family Beach Challenge.  The challenge takes place from 11am - 5pm.  For more information on how to participate in the challenge with you family,  click here.


Moody Gardens

During Spring Break Moody Gardens will be open daily.  This year there are several new attractions opening for visitors to experience; Expedition Chesapeake, a 3D film starring Jeff Corwin that addresses issues facing the country’s largest estuary, Aquaman: the 4D Experience makes its Galveston debut at Moody Gardens March 7 and the Discovery Pyramid will be home to the interactive adventure 20,0000 Leagues Under the Sea. Schlitterbahn

 

For spring break and on weekends, Schlitterbahn opens it's Wasserfest water park. This part of the park is home to the Boogie Bahn surf ride, 4 tubing slides, a tidal wave river, three speed slides, two areas for kids, a wave lagoon, a heated pool with a swim-up refreshment bar, and more. Shopping

 

In Galveston you will find a 36 block shopping district unlike any other shopping experience you may have.  Visitors shopping in the district can choose to visit over 100 shops, restaurants, and art galleries. There are a wide variety of boutiques to fill every shopping need.  You will also discover antiques, fine art, artisan jewelry, spice shops, novelty shops and much more.  For a list of downtown shopping in Galveston click here


Museums

 

 Visitors to the island can see the Islands rich history displayed in a wide variety of museums.  Choose from the Railroad Museum, 1895 Moody Mansion, The Texas Seaport Museum, and many others.  For a list of Galveston's museums and locations click here.


Galveston Tree Sculpture Tour

 

Galveston has many attractions that are free or low cost.  One of them was created in part because of Hurricane Ike in 2008.  The salty storm water uprooted and destroyed many of the islands oak trees.  Months later sculpture artists created The Galveston Tree Sculpture Tour.  On this tour you will find these whimsical sculptures tucked into gardens and yards. Galveston Island State Park

 

Galveston Island State Park offers a variety of activities.  You may choose from beach and bay nature walks to birding. Kayak tours, fishing clinics and special events. Click here for a list of their activities and camping info.
