Hair Color Trends for 2019

Winter is beginning to  give way to spring, so now is the time to start thinking about transitioning your hair color and cut from winter to spring. I've been scouring the internet fashion world to see what trends are going to be hot this year.

Here are a few of the hottest looks around for this year!

LOW MAINTENANCE  and natural looks are very in this year.   One of the more popular color trends is the brown brunette with copper or caramel hilites.  These are not your mothers hilites.  The trend is staying with a more natural balayage technique.   When talking to your colorist ask for warm brunettes tones with a  copper or caramel  accent.  One thing to remember is that warm tones do fade.  Your hilites will last 4-6 months but that beautiful copper or caramel color will fade with every shampoo.  You may consider having a glossing toner done every 6 weeks when you refresh your base color, just to maintain your hilite color.

ANOTHER very popular trend with brunettes is butterscotch hilites.  With this trend ask your colorist for fine hilites around the face and make sure to tip ends out, keeping a lot of depth and dimension in the hair. Don't skip on an all over gloss!  This will tone down the highlights so they aren't blonde.  The maintenance on this look is also very low.  You should schedule your balayage appointment every 4-6 months to maintain these hi lights.  The butterscotch glossing toner should be refreshed every 6-8 weeks to keep the color fresh.

ONE of the more notable natural trend is the low maintenance look of tone on tone balayage.  A lot of clients are wanting a more natural look, but still want dimension.  This is a great look for everyone.  Ask your colorist  for a color close to your natural shade, usually 2 shades lighter,  with a lot of dimension.  This looks great on every one, blonde, brunette or reds.  Again this is a very low maintenance look.  Balayage should be refreshed at least every 6 months, with a glossing toner applied in between highlighting services.

Some trends aren't going away any time soon.

ONE of  those is the blonde ash grey trend.  If your already blonde, this color is easily attainable, but if your have darker hair, then this is a lot more difficult.  Your hair must be pre-lightened to a clean white blonde (no yellow) before a grey color mixture can be applied to your hair.  Some clients aren't a good candidate for this color because of their natural color level, their skin tone, or the condition of their hair.  Do a thorough consultation with your colorist to discuss the correct shade for your skin tone, the damage on your hair, and to manage realistic expectations.

ANOTHER trend that is here to stay are baby lights. Many times , baby lights are used in combination with a balayage.  In general, baby lights give an over all lighter effect.  You can have your colorist customize this look for you.  A combination of baby lights, balayage, and low lights, as well as customized placement can create a look that is all your own!

SNOW BUNNY BLONDE  was made popular in 2018 with celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Ariana Grande, but they will stick around for 2019.

You and your colorist should discuss which shade works best for your skin tone.    For skin tones that are pale, you'll look best in creamy and platinum tones.  For those darker or tanned skin tone stick to the powdery and icy shades.  Depending on the color of your natural hair this can be a very high maintenance look.  Be sure to discuss what type of maintenance plan is needed for your hair type and skin tone.

Pantone's color of the year is Living Coral.  This hair color will be the hair color trend for 2019.  While promoting her new movie Ben is Back, Julia Roberts debuted a hair color that was very similar to Pantone's color of the year.  This color will look best on pre-lightened,  so discuss with your colorist which shade will look best for your skin tone

What ever color you decide on for 2019, just have fun with it!
